Episode 16. Yevgeny Shirshin Dubbing on request
New People • 2016 • 13 minutes
At MSU’s Faculty of Physics, a method was developed that enables detailed studies of processes occurring in high-radiation zones. This technique allows for the determination of the elemental composition and concentration of substances inside nuclear reactors or nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities, using an instrument based on laser technology. MSU physics researcher Yevgeny Shirshin will demonstrate how it works and explain how laser technologies may soon help protect us from dangerous allergens.
Episode 15. Yegor Plotnikov Dubbing on request
New People • 2016 • 13 minutes

The study of the cells that make up the human body is one of the main directions of modern science. If scientists can fully understand the processes occurring inside cells, they will be able to develop new ways to fight diseases that are currently considered incurable. Significant progress has already been made in this area. At the Belozersky Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology at MSU, researchers have succeeded in identifying the factors that lead to ischemia in human organs and exploring methods to combat this serious condition. Dr. Yegor Plotnikov discusses this discovery in the latest issue of the New People programme.

Episode 14. Viktor Chertopolokhov Dubbing on request
New People • 2016 • 13 minutes
Virtual reality is increasingly making its way into the real world. Scientists at MSU’s Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics have developed a unique training complex that enables cosmonauts to prepare for work in open space and life on other planets. Additionally, algorithms created by MSU’s MechMat researchers can assist in training rescuers, high-rise construction workers, and specialists in other equally hazardous professions.
Episode 13. Ilya Osterman Dubbing on request
New People • 2016 • 13 minutes
Is it possible to effectively combat dangerous bacteria that can develop drug resistance in just a single day? At the Belozersky Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology, a method has been developed that enables highly precise determination not only of an antibiotic’s effectiveness but also of the mechanism by which the drug kills a pathogenic bacterium. This technology could represent a significant breakthrough in the fight against deadly diseases.
Episode 12. Daniil Itkins Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes
This episode is dedicated to the high-tech batteries being developed at Moscow State University. Daniil Itkins, a senior researcher at MSU’s Faculty of Materials Science, explains why a university like MSU focuses on such an applied topic as batteries.
Episode 11. Andrey Mardanov Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes
Andrey Mardanov was born in 1983 in Kazan. In 2006, he graduated from the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University, defended his PhD in 2007, and completed his doctoral thesis in 2013. He works as a senior researcher at the Institute of Bioengineering at the Federal Research Center for Fundamental Biotechnology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He will tell Natalia about the current work of scientists in genomics and genetic engineering. Andrey studies microbial genomes — specifically, he researches the totality of all living information contained within a living cell.
Episode 10. Dmitry Bakanov Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes

How are satellites in low Earth orbit controlled? To see this with our own eyes, we visit Korolyov near Moscow, where the famous Mission Control Center is located. In this episode of New People, we explore in detail the new Russian satellite space communications system, “Luch”.

Episode 9. Ivan Bessonov Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes

Scientists are continually developing new methods to combat deadly diseases. Recent advances by biologists and biochemists offer hope that, soon, there will be no illnesses currently considered "incurable". The hero of the next episode of New People, Ivan Bessonov, is successfully working on creating a technology to treat sepsis — a disease whose name not long ago sounded like a death sentence.

Episode 8. Vasily Petrov Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes
Host Natalia Popova goes to where the world’s most high-tech products are made — artificial satellites — at VNIIEM Corporation. There Natalia meets Vasily Petrov, deputy chief designer of the scientific instruments complex for the "Lomonosov" spacecraft.
Episode 7. Valentina Utochnikova Dubbing on request
New People • 2015 • 13 minutes
Host Natalia Popova visits MSU to meet researcher Valentina Utochnikova. Valentina was born in Ufa in 1986 and entered the Materials Science Faculty at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2003. She defended her PhD in 2012 and now works as a researcher at MSU’s Faculty of Chemistry. In addition to her scientific and teaching pursuits, Valentina enjoys sports, painting, and music. We will learn how she manages to be so multifaceted.
