Sometimes, living organisms survive calmly under conditions that are deadly to humans. This film is dedicated to plants and animals that can go long periods without moisture and endure extreme heat. Hosts Alexander Khaburgaev and Oleg Shumakov travel across desert sands, steppes, and arid mountains to reveal the secrets of various adaptations to Spartan living conditions. Throughout the programme, competitions unfold among animals and plants in different categories: the species that need the least water, the most drought-resistant plant, and others. Viewers will learn many interesting facts — for example, that camels and some lizards convert fat stores into metabolic water, that the jerboa never drinks water in its lifetime, that a small shrub called the “camel thorn” has roots descending to a hundred meters deep, and that tortoises extract water from their own urine. In the finale, the winners of the competitions take their place on the podium of honour.
